A Visit to Helene's Hilltop Orchard is Supposed to Be Cool and Crisp
Today was decidedly not. It was hot and dusty, but a fun time anyway since none of my kids have ever been to an orchard. And this had a pumpkin patch to boot! So,even though it was well picked over (being October in Wisconsin), it was somewhat nostalgic to see the apple trees and vined pumpkins encouraging Brad to make a failed joke about "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" I laughed, but the kids have not been privileged enough to have seen it.
The cow train was of interest to the little ones, so Brad squeezed into the last barrel car with Celia - a feat that takes some physical prowess, determination, an unfaltering love for one's children, and a lack of social concern for oneself (see picture entitled caboose shot). I'm sure everyone thought me rude standing there, apparently alone, stifling the snorted giggles as the tractor pulled away with ten makeshift train cars fashioned into cows with names like Bella, Eileen, and Bessie. Brad was sure I was up to no good as he rounded the corner into the cornfield.
So after the corn maze race (Brad and Malia won told by Kiah war-whooping and screaming behind them), some cold bottled waters, apple dumplings with ice cream, a peck of some wonderfully tasting crispy apples, and a frozen apple pie to take home and bake, we easily called it a day and went home. We decided it shall be an annual event.

I am participating in the 2010 Mommytography 365 Project! For this year long project I will be posting an image a day, to get me out shooting, using my camera and learning new things with it daily.
